The Congregation of Sisters of St. Ann
was founded n Turin, Italy, in 1834
by the Pious couple
Carlo Tancredi Faletti di Barolo
And
Giulia Colbert de Maulevrier

Not having been gifted with children, the couple interpreted this painful situation as the ever-providential design of God’s “inscrutable wisdom”. They vied with each other in becoming apostles of Christian charity. Their experience of God as Providence and Merciful Love in their personal and marital life brought them to open themselves to the realities of their times which led them to start Kindergartens, schools, workshops for artisans, hospitals, hospices – means of authentic human promotion combined with evangelization.

Giulia dedicated herself in a particular way to the reformations of the Prisons. Carlo Tancredi dedicated himself particularly to the education and formation of children and youth. He also held posts of a certain political standing. He was Decurian and Mayor of Turin, making concrete
choices in favour of the integral development of his fellow citizens, especially the poor. He threw open his house to receive the children of poor workers who otherwise would have spend the first and most important years of their life on the road, exposed to all sorts of dangers.

Carlo Tancredi and Giulia founded the institute of the Sisters of St.Ann, who would continue their mission in the Church, at the service of the new generations. Carlo Tancredi died on 4th September, 1838. His wife outlived him till January 1864, bringing to fulfillment the mission they had together undertaken at the service of the poorest.

Blessed Mother Enrichetta Dominici (Beatified on 7th May, 1978) gave impetus to the Charism and Mission of the infant institute, developing its apostolic and charitable activity which has continued to be carried on uninterruptedly. She gave a missionary dimension to the Institute sending 6 sisters to Secunderabad, India. Today, the Congregation besides being in Italy and India is also present in Brazil, Philippines, United States, Switzerland, Mexico, Cameroon, Peru and in Argentina,

collaborating everywhere, with varied activities in the Church’s work of evangelization.

We, the Sisters of St. Ann, walking in the footsteps of our Founders commit ourselves to be merciful Love, Instruments of Providence and Signs of Hope to all, especially the ‘little ones’ and the poor.

Our Apostolate: Schools, Hospitals and dispensaries, Parish activities like Catechesis, BCC etc, Youth animation, Family visits and Front line Ministries according to the need of the place.
