The Franciscan Clarist Congregation in Kerala
was founded in 1888 at Changanacherry by eight
pious women from Pala and around, who were imbibed
with the spirit of St. Francis and St. Clare of
Assisi. During more than 125 years of its growth,
FCC has become a full-fledged Congregation with
6745 sisters working in 20 provinces in Kerala
and other parts of India. The Congregation also
has a few houses abroad.
The Congregation members render dedicated services
in the fields of education, healthcare, social
service activities and missionary work.
Alphonsa Jyothi Province, Bharananganam was formed
in 1989 and has at present 522 sisters staying
in 36 convents joyfully following Jesus Christ
and integrating prayer with apostolic activities
such as care of the poor and destitute, nursing
the sick, protecting the aged, caring the physically
and mentally retarded etc. We also undertake education,
vocational training, village development programmes,
and such other humanitarian services. Mission
Houses in two dioceses of South Africa and Italy
offer chances for challenging services to the
lost and to the downtrodden.
FCC, especially the Alphonsa Jyothi Province,
is blessed to have Blessed Alphonsa, the Passion
Flower from Bharananganam as her beloved daughter,
who spreads fragrance of sanctity and remains
the patroness for the suffering all over the world.
